JEMINA SHREDS, THURSTON BLEEDS, BUCK BRAGS AND TRENT CALLS

No guitar hero — Sonic Youth guitarist and head of the Ecstatic Peace label Thurston Moore was in Nashville recently hanging with Be Your Own Pet, one of two Nashville bands on the label’s roster, when he was introduced to the video game Guitar Hero. Moore told Pitchfork Media, “I was over at Jemina Pearl's house, the singer from Be Your Own Pet in Nashville, and she had it and I was like, ‘Aw man, that's so f**kin' easy!’ And she's like, ‘Yeah?’ And she played "Search & Destroy" by the Stooges on it. And she just kicked ass. She just ripped on it, like, she played all of James Williamson's leads, and I was watching her, like, ‘Huh, I could do that.’ And then I tried my hand at it. I couldn't even get out of the gate. I was just splayed on the living room floor, bleeding and humiliated.”

They don’t call him young and buck for nuttin’ — On the track “Fully Loaded Clip,” 50 Cent says, “When Trina was telling [Lil] Wayne, 'I love you, boo'/ She was running games, she told [Young] Buck that too." Well, Young Buck told MTV.com that it’s all true. "It's the truth, it's the f**king truth! 50 is not f**king lying," Buck proclaimed. "You want me to tell you the truth? I'mma tell you the truth. I was messing with her while she was messing with [Wayne]. I would hear him on the phone [in the background] every now and then while she's laying right there. She knows it. 50 ain't doing nothing but speaking the truth." Regarding Lil’ Kim, who has also been linked to him, Buck was less forthcoming, offering little more than, “She’s cool.” Guess he’s still hangin’ with her.

Calling Mr. Belew — The Fly has learned that King Crimson guitarist Adrian Belew will be joining Trent Reznor in an L.A. studio the first week in December to work on music for a new record. It won’t be the first time the pair has worked together. Belew’s six-string magic was all over Nine Inch Nails’ 1994 album, The Downward Spiral. After those sessions, Reznor told Guitar Player magazine, “Adrian is the most awesome musician in the world. I've never seen anybody play guitar like that.”

Speech writer Tommy Womack is having some kind of year. The rock singer-songwriter not only released the critically acclaimed album There I Said It, The Fly has learned Womack contributed lyrics to a side project of Arrested Development’s Speech called “Retrospek” and “Squizzle Berries” and further collaborations are in the works. On his website, Womack called meeting and working with Speech, “an inspiring highlight of 2007.”

They like those Cashville cats — After The Duhks’ second and third records were produced by Bela Fleck and Tim O’Brien respectively, the Juno-winning, Canadian folk-rock quintet are hooking up with another Nashville producer to helm their fourth album. In January, the band will travel to Nashvegas to work with uberproducer Jay Joyce at his West-side studio, Tragedy, Tragedy. No disrespect to Fleck and O’Brien, but The Fly expects The Duhks to scale new sonic heights under the direction of Joyce.
