News Outta Sights Records is using an old-school approach to introduce their expanded roster.
SUPER-BAD SOUL REVUE TO SHOWCASE OUTTA SIGHT'S EXPANDED ROSTER
Nashville-based Outta Sight Records is reviving the concept of the traveling soul revue as a way of introducing two new signings — the legendary Harvey Scales and The Soulphonics featuring Ruby Velle. The soul imprint was started as a vehicle for The Dynamites featuring Charles Walker by the band’s manager, Doyle Davis, and the band leader, Bill Edler aka Leo Black. All three of the label’s artists will be appearing on the Super-Bad Soul Revue and all three will be dropping singles in the next few months.Scales, who cowrote the Johnnie Taylor hit, “Disco Lady,” recorded for the Chess, Stax, Mercury and Casablanca labels. His signing with Outta Sight marks his full-blown return to the stage and studio. Originally from Gainesville, Fla., The Soulphonics featuring Ruby Velle (right) now hail from the ATL. Although they are new to the Southern soul scene, the band has a tight, fully developed sound. The Super-Bad Soul Revue will kick off with a pair of shows in Tennessee, appearing on Feb. 22 at The Mercy Lounge in Nashville, then hitting the Hi-Tone in Memphis. Local deep funk DJs will spin platters at both shows — D-Funk in Nashville and the Buck Wilders crew in Memphis. — Staff Report
